McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act

McKinney-Vento is a federal program that ensures immediate enrollment and educational stability for homeless children and youth. 

Homelessness is defined as a lack of a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.

The School District, in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, will ensure that
homeless children, unaccompanied youth, and youth in transition have access to a free and appropriate
public education, including preschool, and given an opportunity to participate fully and receive educational
services comparable to those provided to other students.  A student may be considered eligible for
services if he/she is presently living:


 In a shelter, or transitional living program;
 In a hotel/motel, campground, or similar situation due to lack of alternative, adequate housing;
 In a bus/train station, park, car, or abandoned building;
 Doubled up with other people due to loss of housing or economic hardship.
