Ethan Hays was recently awarded the Stephen Osmond Scholarship through the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Community Music School for his work on the piano. This $1000 tuition award represents the largest scholarship offered by the Guild and Community Music School, and shall be granted to a current CMS student who has already demonstrated clear dedication and commitment to the school and community. This student must have been enrolled for a minimum of 4 years at our school and demonstrated a significant level of student leadership, community service, volunteering, and outreach. The winner of this scholarship shall be selected by Guild representatives based on application and teacher recommendation, and they will serve as a CMS student ambassador, representing our school and organization throughout the following year at various types of outreach concerts, Guild-sponsored events, and schools. As the award winner, he also will be performing for the Guild in the coming school year. Congratulations Ethan!
We had 3 students perform in the Jackson County Honors Band at East Jackson High School. Conner Bacon on Tenor Sax, Braydon Jones on Percussion, and Hayden Stemen on Bari Sax- these students were selected as top musicians in Jackson County to perform with the ensemble under the direction of Professor J. Nick Smith from Eastern Michigan University. The group met and rehearsed for 6 hours during their school day, and put on a wonderful performance.
Senior Dustin Moeckel was recognized this week as a nominee for the MSBOA Outstanding Soloist Competition. All students who perform a proficiency solo at the State Solo & Ensemble festival are eligible for nomination, and for his Trombone Solo, Dustin was recognized as one of the top performers in the State! He will perform his solo for the competition next Friday, March 31 at Central Michigan University. The 4 winners of the competition will be recognized statewide and given the opportunity to perform at a Spring Honors Festival performance at Western Michigan on May 12.
