Our Napoleon Student Council is a group of elected and volunteer students working together with their adult advisor within the framework of a constitution or bylaws to provide a means for student expression and assistance in school affairs and activities, give opportunities for student experience in leadership and encourage student, faculty, and community relations.

In the fall, Student Council begins with activities that include helping out at various stations of the community Block Party held during the first week of school and they volunteer at Freshman Orientation. Another fun event sponsored by one of our classes is the Trunk or Treat each October. Sometimes this includes decorating an inside door and passing out candy while kids walk through the building, but most recently, it has been an awesome outdoor event with haunted tailgates and lots of fun for the community. Our biggest fall event is our annual Fall Homecoming. Leading up to this week is a LOT of work, but the end result is SO worth it. Fall Homecoming includes organizing a community parade, planning games, putting together lip sync competitions, and honoring our fall athletes and clubs during a pep assembly, holding a school “election” to nominate Homecoming court representatives, hosting and organizing a spirit week with an overall theme, dress-up days, rock-painting competition, class banner contests, organizing a halftime crowning ceremony for the night of the big football game, and, wrapping up the week with hosting a dance for all of the high school students to enjoy after the game.

When winter rolls around, Student Council activities continue. Among the fun events are volunteering at Eby’s Santa Shop and other class projects that vary from family fun nights, community lock-ins, and bus trips to see the Nite Lites. Students also plan and organize the “Twelve Days of Christmas” spirit event for the whole school to participate in for class incentives and individual prizes. These special days include a Holiday bake sale, Ugly Christmas sweater day, dress like your favorite Christmas movie character, and so much more. Students even have the opportunity to find hidden images around the school from the “Twelve Days of Christmas” song and prizes were awarded each day. The biggest winter event is our annual Winter Homecoming. Leading up to this week is similar to Fall Homecoming with plenty of fun, this time including a hall decorating contest for the community to view as they enter for the big basketball game.

Springtime does not slow the club down at all. Spring Student Council activities include end-of-the-year activities, which include volunteering our time at graduation and other various events that take place around this time. In recent years, the students have begun hosting a Spring Spirit Week. After all the fun and attention that fall and winter receives, it seemed only right to have a week dedicated to our spring athletes and clubs. This week also includes dress up days, such as Tropical Tuesday and Made-in-the-Shade Monday. It was a successful week and one that we hope will continue on for many years to come. Also in the spring, the Student Council honors our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week. The students come together to do various things to show our appreciation, including making creative posters for each of our teachers’ doors and other special projects to show the teachers how much they are appreciated. Lastly, the students host an annual end-of-the-year school picnic. This is an afternoon of grilling-out, beach volleyball, outdoor games, and just a lot of fun with friends.

The Student Council members put in the time and effort to help out the school and community through many events. It is a great way for students to participate in school events while learning valuable skills outside of the classroom!
